In 2008, America and the world were promised hope and change by the US presidential candidate Barack Obama and his historic election triumph. As 2009 nears its conclusion, we’ve been seeing and hearing a lot of the same campaign rhetoric from the White House, while the new president’s policies divert only partially from the path of the Bush era.
