INDEED, THAT GOP WHACKO YELLED AT THE WRONG LINE:
Americans, While Sympathetic, Worry About Cost (DOUGLAS BELKIN, MIKE ESTERL and AVERY JOHNSON, 9/10/09, WSJ)
John and Barbara Stephenson were more skeptical.Neither had voted for Mr. Obama, and nothing he said Wednesday night changed their minds.
They said the president's proposals were going too far.
"I think he's going to cost our children and our grandchildren $3 trillion dollars," said Mr. Stephenson, 73, a retired marketing manager.
Mr. Stephenson said the couple have Medicare, as well as insurance from his retirement package.
"Are we going to be taxed on that?" he asked. Then he shook his head and said, "There is already too much government."
The part of the speech that was most obviously dishonest was this:
[H]ere's what you need to know. First, I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits -- either now or in the future. (Applause.) I will not sign it if it adds one dime to the deficit, now or in the future, period. And to prove that I'm serious, there will be a provision in this plan that requires us to come forward with more spending cuts if the savings we promised don't materialize.
No one believes that, least of all the smartest leader in the history of the planet. Posted by Orrin Judd at September 10, 2009 7:24 AM
