DO THEY REALLY NEED TO LOSE THAT DEBATE AGAIN?:

Why Democrats Are Losing on Health Care (Thomas Frank, 9/01/09, WSJ)

Concerns about the size and role of government are what seem to leave reformers stammering and speechless in town-hall meetings. The right wants to have a debate over fundamental principles; elected Democrats seem incapable of giving it to them.

That debate was over decades ago, which is why the parties of the Left have only been successful in the Anglosphere when they advocate Third Way reforms of the antiquated top-down welfare net. If Progressives weren't so reactionary they'd go to school on what works and propose universal HSAs with taxpayers subsidizing the accounts for the poor.
