THE LIFEBOAT IS OVERBURDENED, I'LL HELP YOU JUMP OVERBOARD:
The Latest Population Bomb (Eric Heidenreich, 4.2.09, American Spectator)
And Porritt's figure, according to OPT’s website, is an overgenerous estimate. It projects that the UK can sustain only 18 million people, and the whole world can only handle about five billion (current global population is 6.7 billion). In other words, the world’s population is terribly bloated and something needs to be done about it.Posted by Orrin Judd at April 2, 2009 6:27 AMThis worry about global population is nothing new, of course. In 1798, Thomas Malthus authored An Essay on the Principle of Population, in which he argued that human population was growing geometrically (2, 4, 8, 16, etc.), outstripping an arithmetic rise in food production (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.). Paul Ehrlich reinvigorated this overpopulation alarmism in his 1968 bestseller, The Population Bomb. Ehrlich claimed, “in the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death.”
No big surprise: Ehrlich is involved with OPT. The website lists him as a "Patron" of the organization.
