JUST ANOTHER SELL-OUT IN THE END:

Harold Pinter speaks from grave on religion (Tim Walker, 09 Jan 2009, Daily Telegraph)

When family and friends of Harold Pinter called in The Sunday Telegraph for him to be commemorated in Poets' Corner, a senior figure at Westminster Abbey was said to have objected because of the playwright's "anti-religious views". Pinter has now intervened from beyond the grave. In a previously unreported interview, he admitted to having "religious inclinations".

The son of Jewish parents, who was given a resolutely secular funeral on New Year's Eve at Kensal Rise cemetery, he said: "I derive something I can only call an actual aesthetic pleasure from certain ceremonies and a great deal of religious music, and even the physical presence of being in churches." He added that he would occasionally accompany his wife, Lady Antonia Fraser, a Roman Catholic, to Mass at a Carmelite church.

Keep a hole warm for Mr. Dawkins.
