AND STOUTER:
John By stout crafted around heart of darkness (Josh Rubin, 2/02/08, Toronto Star)
Few...beers...are so dark they block light from coming through. John By Imperial Stout, from Scotch Irish Brewing, can. (Not that you asked, but it was a 60-watt bulb.)Posted by Orrin Judd at January 2, 2008 10:09 AMJohn By, named for the English military engineer who oversaw construction of the Rideau Canal, isn't just dark in colour. The rich brew, which bears more than a passing resemblance to a slightly fizzy motor oil, is also dark in taste. There's a strong flavour of dark-roasted coffee, and hints of one of those high-cocoa content chocolate bars you find in fancy food shops.
