Brazil lawmakers angry that Cuban boxers were deported (AFP, 8/06/07)

Brazilian opposition lawmakers were outraged Monday by the government's decision to deport two Cuban boxers who failed to show up at the Pan American Games last month and may have been seeking asylum.

"Brazil broke its best democratic tradition with that summary deportation," said Brazilian Social Democracy leader Arthur Virgilio, who called on the foreign and defense ministers to explain themselves to Congress.
