As the French presidential campaign entered its final hours Friday, the last three polls confirmed that Nicolas Sarkozy, the conservative front-runner, retained a significant lead over Ségolène Royal, the Socialist candidate who is trying to become the first woman elected president in France.Posted by Orrin Judd at May 4, 2007 12:05 AMA poll Thursday by CSA gave Sarkozy 53 percent to Royal's 47 percent while Sofres indicated that Sarkozy, who has held a wide advantage in every poll for months, increased his lead to 54.5 percent, with Royal at 45.5 percent. Ipsos on Wednesday and Thursday placed the former interior minister at 54 percent and Royal at 46.
