Abortion poll 'a surprise' (Clara Pirani and Vanda Carson, 30apr05, The Australian)

MORE than 70per cent of Australians are opposed to Medicare funding for abortions beyond 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Preliminary data from a national survey also reveals 56per cent of Australians believe an unborn child at 20 weeks is a person with rights.

The survey of 1200 people, conducted by research company Market Facts and funded by the Australian Federation of Right to Life Associations, will be released mid-May
