When an American trooper is flown out of Iraq for medical care, chances are almost nine out of 10 that the patient wasn't hurt in battle.

As of Sept. 30, more than 87 percent of the 14,452 U.S. soldiers sent to Army medical facilities from Iraq since the war began in March 2003 were suffering from disease or from noncombat injuries such as sprained ankles, lower back pain, heart palpitations and psychiatric disorders, military health officials said.
