MITCH BEATS MILLER:

State leader voted out (WTHR-TV, 5/04/04)

In what is considered the most important race in the Indiana primary, former White House budget director Mitch Daniels has been declared the winner over Eric Miller in the Republican race for governor.

Daniels has 66 percent to Miller's 34 percent. Daniels' lead progressively increased as the evening wore on.

The former White House official used his strong ties to the President during the campaign. Monday Daniels was by Bush's side when he stepped off Air Force One in South Bend.

In November Daniels wilI face incumbent Governor Joe Kernan, who is running unopposed on the Democratic side.

Mr. Daniels gives the GOP one of its best shots at adding a governor's seat in November.
