Democratic Senator Ernest ``Fritz'' Hollings of S.C. won't seek re-election (AMY GEIER EDGAR, August 4, 2003, Associated Press)

Democratic Sen. Ernest "Fritz" Hollings of South Carolina said Monday he will not seek re-election next year, ending a 55-year political career and giving Republicans a strong opportunity to pick up a Senate seat.

He was likely to lose anyway, so it doesn't change the equation for getting the GOP to 60 seats, but it is another bad sign for Democrats. Posted by Orrin Judd at August 4, 2003 6:27 PM
