WHERE THE FRENCH LEAD, THE LEFT FOLLOWS

Public sector union prepares the ground for general strike: Unison to adopt French tactics (Christine Buckley and David Charter, June 09, 2003, Times of London)
BRITAIN is facing the prospect of co-ordinated strikes that could paralyse the public services as the country?s biggest union prepares to go to war against the Government.

Unison, which has 1.3 million members across the public sector, is threatening to create a permanent strike fund and adopt continental tactics designed to bypass laws banning secondary action. [...]

It will be the first time a union with members across different areas of the public sector has attempted to coordinate industrial action. Unison represents employees in local government, health care, further and higher education, schools, housing associations and police support staff.

In a move which would shake the Labour Party to its core, the union is also preparing to create a new political fund which could be used to support other parties, including the far-left Socialist Alliance.

This is why the Third Way is really the First Way. There are only two choices: Left or Right. Tony Blair, like it or not, is a man of the Right.

By the way, one wonders whether the phrase "adopt French tactics" has been used anywhere else in the past 150 years. Posted by Orrin Judd at June 9, 2003 7:56 AM
