A short year and a half ago America was astride the world like a moral colossus. Virtually the entire world united behind us in our grim search for justice against Al Qaeda.

You read sentiments like that a lot from the anti-war crowd. A not dissimilar sentiment imbues post-Holocaust Jews with special moral aura in the minds of many. This moralization by victimhood seems like something we should all try to avoid rather than bask in. Given a choice between having folks think us a "moral colossus" as the forces of evil blow us up or not like us much as we blow the purveyors of terror up, it doesn't seem like one you'd have to dither over.
