FRIST IN HIS CLASS:
WHO WILL LEAD THE SENATE?: Lott in Deepest Doo-Doo (The Prowler, 12/11/2002, American Prowler)Five days after Sen. Majority Leader Trent Lott made his unfortunate comments regarding the political heritage of the Dixiecrats, Republicans on Capitol Hill and conservatives in Washington and around the country are discussing how best to call for Lott's stepping aside as Senate leader. [...]Republican Senate staffers meeting over lunch and in the hallways of Capitol Hill have already begun throwing out successor names, such as outgoing Republican Whip Don Nickles, incoming Whip Mitch McConnell, and even rising star Sen. Bill Frist.
Is there a Doctor in the house?...Just what the Doctor ordered...Brought in to doctor an ailing Senate leadership...it's a cliche field day. Posted by Orrin Judd at December 11, 2002 7:50 PM
Does anyone here actually like Lott?
I'm glad he's voting the right way, but, frankly, he is a most unlikeable and irritating fellow, only a couple of rungs up the food chain from McCain, if only because he is an uncharming racist, as opposed to McCain, who is a completely unconvincing and phony moralist. In other words McCain is a liar. Lott doesn't lie about his sneer of anything but white southern wasps.
This is a good time to get rid of him, and also hold a good upper-hand when it comes time to quickly nail the next Torrisalami, if that's possible. Not to mention, President Bush cannot stand Lott.
Lott has fouled up too many times, particularly on impeachment and Jeffords, to have earned much conservative loyalty.
