VOUCHERS NOW, PART 8,762 :

Weekend Edition (NPR, 9/07/02)
There's been some attempt to let the NEA off the hook for their appalling proposal that teachers not blame Muslims for the 9/11 attacks in their teaching about the subject, but this morning on NPR's Weekend Edition you got a pretty good indicator that the union has already received the message loud and clear. NPR asked a group of retired social studies teachers, "with 150 years experience between them", how they would handle the topic (quotes are inexact):
NPR: What one exercise would you use to teach students about 9-11?

Teacher One: I'd ask them: what does it mean to be a Palestinian? That's the perfect question.

Teacher Two: No, even better--what does it mean to be a terrorist? After all, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

Why do we continue to let people who think this way teach our kids? Posted by Orrin Judd at September 7, 2002 11:16 AM
