TRAMP DEVIL IN A FREEZE BOX :
Tipper Gore Ponies Up for the Boss (Roger Friedman, August 08, 2002, FOX NEWS)Tickets to Bruce Springsteen's tour are pretty hot stuff. They're hard to get, but they're not too expensive at $77 - compared to recent Paul McCartney and Prince shows. But not everyone wants to pay for them.Take, for example, former Vice President Al Gore and his lovely wife, Tipper. Sources close to them and to Springsteen tell me Tipper tried to get free tickets to
the Springsteen show for the entire Gore staff. That didn't work, and she was then told even paid admission would be hard to come by."They wound up being offered four," says a source. "But when they were asked to pay $75 apiece, they said forget it. And you know, that's why Gore isn't
president, in a nutshell."
If these personal vignettes bore you, skip over this one, I'll not be offended. But the 1995 gubernatorial race happened to coincide with Bruce Springsteen's first stadium tour in several years and he opened the tour at Giants Stadium. The candidate, Peter Shapiro, went to High School in South Orange with Springsteen's drummer, Max Weinberg, so they scored us two tickets. I'm not a huge fan, but if you grew up in NJ, Springsteen tunes were the muzac in the background of your life. So I was at least reasonably fired up to go.
