Texas GOP group aims to get Hispanics elected (APRIL CASTRO, 7/20/10, Associated Press)

Eager to attract a growing Hispanic voting population in Texas, a new Republican group launched an effort Tuesday to recruit and train GOP candidates.

The Hispanic Republicans of Texas, led by George P. Bush, the nephew of former President George W. Bush, said in addition to recruiting potential candidates, they would help financially with potential candidates around the state who are interested in running for school board or any other office. Hispanics represent 37 percent of the Texas population and 40 percent of students in public schools, but none of the 96 Republicans in the Legislature is Hispanic.
