WINNERS ISSUE TERMS:

Hamas Leader Sets Terms for Ceasefire With Israel (VOA News, 12 March 2008)

The leader of the Islamic militant group Hamas has laid out conditions for a ceasefire with Israel.

Ismail Haniyeh said in a speech Wednesday in the Gaza Strip that Israel must stop carrying out raids and assassinations in the territory. He also said Israel must reopen Gaza's borders, which have been sealed since Hamas seized control of Gaza in June.

Haniyeh said a ceasefire must be "reciprocal, simultaneous and comprehensive."

If the history of the last 60 years tells us anything, it's that "peace terms" don't mean anything.

Israel: Okay, we stopped carrying out raids and assassinations, and we also opened the borders.

Hamas: Cool!

Israel: So... now you stop shooting missiles at us and blowing up our children, right?

Hamas: ... ... ...

(sounds of missiles firing and huge child-killing explosions)

I thought it wasn't Hamas who was launching the missiles. Are you walking the cat back, or just tossing out chum?

They weren't prior to the invasion and were pretty good about quashing the other groups. They have no reason to try and stop them now though.
