A GOOD ILLUSTRATION OF WHY WE'RE THE STUPID PARTY NOT THE INTELLECTUAL:
Talk radio static (Kenneth Tomlinson, February 23, 2008, Washington Times)
Last summer, as the debate over illegal immigration legislation simmered in Washington, I found myself focused more and more on conservative talk radio.Rush Limbaugh was doing a daily number on the immigration bill, as was Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity, and that was really swimming against the political tide because everyone from President Bush to Sens. John McCain and Ted Kennedy and, for that matter, the Wall Street Journal editorial page were backing the legislation.
But the more I listened the more I recognized Mr. Limbaugh et al. were absolutely annihilating the intellectual case for the immigration-reform legislation. It was amnesty — a reward for illegal behavior. Simpson-Mazzoli, that original immigration reform measure of the 1980s, had proven to be a disaster. Why would not Simpson-Mazzoli II be even worse?
Disaster? Would you rather have the economy and declining social pathologies America has had for the twenty years since the Reagan amnesty or the economy we had for twenty years after the Coolidge immigration restrictions passed? Posted by Orrin Judd at February 23, 2008 8:37 AM
Establish processing centers on the Mexican-side of the border run by anybody but a government. Export illegals to these centers for fingerprinting, retinal-scans, DNA, photographs, and background checks (mostly looking for drug running connections).
Spend a year getting these centers computerized, tested, Q/A'd for speed and accuracy. Then export illegals from northern states and work south. Any illegals caught in vetted states after this process are jailed and banned from citizenship forever. No states are swept until previous states are finished. The goal is to get folks turned around in a day. A baseball stadium's worth of folks every day, about 40k, 7 days a week.
Bring these folks back the same day, offer them citizenship or a green card, their choice. Their kids become citizens immediately, regardless of place of birth. If they have any relatives under 12 years of age, we offer them citizenship as well. We offer each one of them a year of free health insurance, transport to anyplace in the continental U.S. and 1,500 bucks.
We thank God for them and pray for them, they're keeping our country from dying of the low-birthrate that comes with secular self-involvement. They're keeping our economy humming and the American Catholic Church from becoming completely Kennedy-ized.
Along with these processing centers, WE SECURED THE DAMNED BORDER! At the same time, we secure the northern border with our sharia neighbor to the north.
This is what most Americans want (security) or could be led to (keeping businesses on U.S. mainland fed by cheap labor).
Posted by: Palmcroft at February 23, 2008 12:32 PMThere will always be illegal amnesties every 20 years or so. The first one was under JFK; the second, Ronald Reagan; the third GWB/his successor.
We need new immigrants who believe in the American Dream to replenish our labor pool and gene pool. The first generation works exceptionally hard, the second harvests the fruit, the third prefers to be taken care of by the state.
Posted by: ic at February 23, 2008 1:58 PMThey're already Americans, why degrade them? If they pass an English and citizenship test make them full citizens. Until then make them legal residents.
