SCREW THE PEOPLE:
As Cuba's economy withers, its ecology thrives (Cornelia Dean, December 25, 2007, IHT)

Not to worry. As soon as they open the gates, Cubans will be on their way to Miami leaving the lush beaches and gorgeous mountain views to rich lefties from the U.S. and Euroland who will trash the environment just as badly the their predecessors.

Conservationists, environmental lawyers and other experts, from Cuba and elsewhere, met last month in Cancun, Mexico, to discuss the island's resources and how to continue to protect them.
How do they keep a straight face? But then they're used to doing well by doing good.
