Crimes against wild birds in the UK increased by more than 50% last year, a leading wildlife charity has reported. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) said there were 1,109 incidents in 2006, up from 726 in 2005.
Its Birdcrime report says threatened species suffered shooting, poisoning, trapping and nest destruction.
Can't you just picture Al Gore rocking back and forth, banging his head on a wall, and muttering: "I swear it's the DDT...I swear it's the DDT...I swear..." Posted by Orrin Judd at September 11, 2007 12:00 AM

Animal trapping and archery, are, both of them, a bit inhumane for my personal taste. Yet I recongize that they are the border guards, standing watch on the mark against the heresy which may compass "crimes against birds."
A game law violation is an act of civic impiety, and an injustice against one's fellow hunters; it cannot be a crime against the bird, which has no "rights" humans are bound to respect, not being a Ding an sich.
