CLOSET? HE SEEMS PRETTY OPEN ABOUT IT:

Is George Bush a Closet Green? (Lloyd Alter, Toronto, 02.19.07, Tree Hugger)

Only your dispassionate Canadian correspondent could write this without colour or favour, but is it possible that George Bush is a secret Green? Evidently his Crawford Winter White House has 25,000 gallons of rainwater storage, gray water collection from sinks and showers for irrigation, passive solar, geothermal heating and cooling. "By marketplace standards, the house is startlingly small," says David Heymann, the architect of the 4,000-square-foot home. "Clients of similar ilk are building 16-to-20,000-square-foot houses." Furthermore for thermal mass the walls are clad in "discards of a local stone called Leuders limestone, which is quarried in the area."

A Republican president who enjoys and values nature is hardly news.

I recall some of these eco-friendly features were noted fawningly by Andrew Sullivan back when he had a thing for Bush. Agree with OJ that this is no surprise. Conservatives abhor waste so reusing materials, water, etc is completely in character. It's the meaningless , or economically inefficient, gestures like some recycling programs, we don't go for.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh--guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year.

Is Gore a hypocrite? The huddling masses should conserve energy so that Lord Gore can live in his 20 room mansion more comfortably. And Mom Pelosi can fly across the continent in the tax payers' jet whenever she likes.

Dems don't like individuals solving problems, they like massive government programs that make for lots of bureaucracy, lots of patronage and at best do very little to improve things and at worse, exacerbate them.
