HOW LONG 'TIL HE MOVES HERE?:

Case Dropped Against Afghan Christian (AP, 3/26/06)

An Afghan court has dismissed case against a man who converted from Islam to Christianity for lack of evidence, an official said Sunday.

They're leaving the case open - if he doesn't escape immediately or if he ever returns, he will be prosecuted and executed.

It's a compromise 'out', but it leaves sharia firmly ensconced in the law there.

Posted by: too true at March 26, 2006 10:05 AM

Why wouldn't sharia be the law there?

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 10:11 AM

A hopeful development. How does the Quran treat the actions of lynch mobs toward apostates? What are the commands of the prophet? To "love God with all your being and to love your neighbor as yourself", must be in there somewhere.

Neighbor love requires conformity to social prescription.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 10:18 AM

Well, if you love God AND your neighbor, 'social prescription' might take care of itself.

Posted by: Tom C., Stamford,Ct. at March 26, 2006 11:12 AM

You've already skipped too many steps. To be your neighbor they have to love God.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 11:16 AM

They don't, they love Mo.

He's a dead man walking and Afghanistan's first christian martyr if he doesn't get out of there.

These are people who kill their own daughters to preserve family honor. Who thinks they would hold back from murdering a stranger who has converted from their cult?

Posted by: obc at March 26, 2006 1:58 PM

OBC: Exactly. But you see, OJ doesn't really have a problem with any of that. At least the murderers aren't secular Darwinists, you see. They're the real danger in his eyes.

Posted by: PapayaSF at March 26, 2006 3:44 PM

I thought all you nativists loved honor cultures, or is that just our own South.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 4:49 PM

All things in moderation, even honor, but especially submission. Seriously, you should think about converting, you're rather a poor Christian but you might make a fine Muslim.

I don't want to end up in Gitmo...

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 5:39 PM

Why not? You'd have three squares a day, a Qu'ran, and an arrow pointing to Mecca on the floor of your cell. What's not to like?

Posted by: joe shropshire at March 26, 2006 5:50 PM

OJ, wanting to stop illegal immigration doesn't make one a "nativist." *Sigh.*

Posted by: PapayaSF at March 26, 2006 5:51 PM

Sure, it's a coincidence that all the same folks share the same views.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 5:55 PM

temperatures over 50 degrees.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 5:56 PM

Why wouldn't sharia be the law there?

Posted by: oj

Maybe because we didn't kill enough of the right people. There's still time.

Posted by: NC3 at March 26, 2006 6:00 PM

Lose some weight, the heat won't bother you nearly as much. Allah prefers you slim anyway.

Posted by: joe shropshire at March 26, 2006 7:13 PM

Warm climates are evil.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 7:39 PM

Islam has become relentlessly conformist to the starkest and darkest voices within. The most troublesome social 'conventions' are based on fear, not honor. Was it honorable for the matawan to direct the girls at their school in Saudi burn to death?

Until about 40 years ago, it didn't really impact the 'modern' world all that much, and the tribal struggles only mattered to academics and possibly a few diplomats. But now, it is different. Even for many Muslims, who are probably wondering what happened.

OJ, as a supposed Christian who often seems to root for Shiite theocracy, you're the last person I'd expect to miss the important point that in politics, one can hold a position on an issue without agreeing with all the beliefs of everyone else who holds that same position on that issue. Sheesh.

Posted by: PapayaSF at March 26, 2006 7:56 PM

Warm climates are evil eh?

Aren't most Moslems in warm climes?

What are you saying oj?

Posted by: Bartman at March 26, 2006 7:58 PM

That the reason the states of the North are superior is because of climate.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 8:58 PM

Papaya:

Not really. We crushed the Loyalists, the South, anarchists, Reds, Communists, militias, etc.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 8:59 PM

Don't forget, all, that this guy was turned in by his ex-wife and his daughters. Islam as a political force is no different than Stalin's communism -- read Solzhenitsyn for the parallels. As a religion, well, let's just say it seems to bring out the worst in people.

But, if conformity to frenzied, seething hatred is good enough for OJ, well, it's good enough for us, right?

Remember, Christianity was never reformed, it just threw off the millstone of politics.

OJ, if you want the definition of "crushed", you should consider Genghis Khan. America never crushes anyone, they occupy forever in a benign, subservient sort of way (Japan, Germany, Korea) -- live and let live. And when the hippies and the French complain, they pull out, sacrificing the natives for political expedience (Vietnam). They tolerate evil on their doorstep (Cuba). The closest thing America ever got to crushing was the native Indians -- but importing slaves more than made up for this deviance.

(I admit the Civil War was a bloodbath, but the South still exists -- and thank God it does!)

Randall:

Sing it in Hiroshima, Ho Chi Minh City or Wounded Knee.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 9:58 PM

At least I'm singing in tune.

Posted by: Randall Voth at March 26, 2006 10:03 PM

I've no problem with the tune, just odd to get so angry when others sing along.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 10:05 PM
Sing it in Hiroshima
Hahahaha, that from the guy who says that losing a few American cities to terrorist nuclear attacks isn't an existential threat. Yet the nuking of Hiroshima is crushing? Posted by: Annoying Old Guy at March 26, 2006 10:19 PM

AOG:

I'm pro-crushing.

Posted by: oj at March 26, 2006 10:23 PM

Mr. Judd;

You completely evaded the point once again, which was: "is nuking a city crushing?". Please answer "yes" or "no". Or is this another one of those "power over purity" things which depends on subtle distinctions just beyond my comprehension?

Posted by: Annoying Old Guy at March 27, 2006 7:03 AM

Yes. I'm pro-crushing.
