UK moths 'in serious decline' (Helen Briggs, 2/20/06, BBC News)

The British moth population is in rapid decline, according to the most comprehensive study of its kind.

A report by Butterfly Conservation says the number of common moths has fallen by a third since 1968.


Geez, in the old days they used to evolve every time the particulate matter rose or dropped by a particle per billion.

Perhaps moths, following a major worldwide trend, decided against multi-culti and are opting for assimilation, thereby lowering the birthrate while at the same time morphing from a whole bunch of different kinds of moths all clamoring for attention, into just ordinary run-of-the-mill moths for all seasons.

My eyes glaze over reading these kinds of articles. If there are fewer moths and/or few kinds of moths, we care because ... ?
