HARPER GOES TO SCHOOL ON BUSH, REID GOES TO SCHOOL ON MARTIN:
Minority Leader Reid Apologizes to GOP (The Associated Press, January 19, 2006)
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday apologized to 33 Republican senators singled out for ethics criticism in a report from his office titled "Republican Abuse of Power.""The document released by my office yesterday went too far and I want to convey to you my personal regrets," Reid said in a letter. [...]
"Researching, compiling and distributing what amounts to nothing more than a campaign ad on the taxpayers dime raises serious ethical questions," said Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, one of the lawmakers named.
Might want to apologize for comparing them to John Gotti while he's at it... Posted by Orrin Judd at January 20, 2006 8:42 AM
Tougher to make a hyperbolic charge like that and stick to it when you have to face these guys in the same room every day, as opposed to saying it about someone on the other side of the Capitol building or 16 blocks west on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Posted by: John at January 20, 2006 9:11 AMHarry Reid ought to be lucky the Stupid Party is well-bred enough to not point out the double-plus-ungood-bad taste-faux pas of ol' Harry being on the DOJ's watch list WRT Abramoff.
As opposed to, oh, Tom DeLay not being on it:)
Posted by: Brad S at January 20, 2006 9:38 AMThe only thing in Harry Reid's favor is that he has no replacement. Durbin is worse (both in person and with the PR), Schumer may want the job but I doubt if 22 Dems will vote for him, and Dorgan has the Abramoff virus worse than Reid.
They could always give it to Barack Obama, but somehow I don't see the libs doing that.
Posted by: jim hamlen at January 20, 2006 9:57 AMBy comparison, I don't think it's valid to call the stupid party the stupid party any longer. It's clearly a case of dumb and dumber... and dumber wins the title.
Posted by: Genecis at January 20, 2006 10:49 AMJohn Gotti, being from Brooklyn and not known to frequent either Vegas or Washington, probably never met our Harry.
