Paul Martin's high-profile daycare pitch was knocked off track yesterday when his chief spokesperson said the $25 a week that parents would receive under a competing Conservative plan would be blown on beer and popcorn.

Like Bill Clinton in a Buffalo, N.Y. speech, they believe the taxpayers will squander their own money. Only the government is wise enough to decide where the cash should go.

He got confused. It's welfare recipients who squander tax payers money, we taxpayers rarely squander our own money.
