Muslim leaders in call for action (BBC, 7/16/05)

Britain's top Muslims have branded the London suicide bombings "utterly criminal, totally reprehensible, and absolutely un-Islamic".

A joint statement of condemnation came as 22 leaders and scholars met at the Islamic Cultural Centre, in London.

But Britain's highest ranking Asian police officer, Tarique Ghaffur, says Muslims and their leaders must do more than just condemn the bombings.

I think the Muslim response to the London attacks shows how much more they like and respect the British that they like us.

This is what they say in English. What they say in their native languages is probably more relevant.

that respect and affection must be why they blew up the place..."i'm blowing up so you'd better get this party started"

Actions speak louder than words.

No action yet.

What action?

Primarily, turning over lists of bad guys.

Secondarily, marching in the streets, placarding mosques, that sort of thing.

These statements are as meaningful as papal exhortations to peace.

March and placard? You're confusing Islam with the CPUSA.

OJ: we will think them serrious when they start dropping a dime on the extremists among them, in that Harry is right.
