PBS stolen by right wing in cunning bait and switch (Ed Garvey, July 5, 2005, Madison.com)

What can we do about the hostile takeover of the Public Broadcasting System and National Public Radio by the right wing?

That they have taken over is beyond dispute.

What's especially delightful about this kerfuffle is the psychic disconnect that allows such folk to complain that conservatives are attacking an institution that properly belongs to the Left.

Let the Left hold onto PBS & NPR - but cut them loose from federal funds.Sink or swim like all other networks.

Projection. My wife inferred this from the Clarence Thomas hearings. I resisted it for years as too simplistic. She's right.

The reason the left is so angry is that they feel that the institutions of gov't (and the media) do indeed belong to them, and it's unthinkable that Republicans should have any power. Hence the constant Dem refrain to "take back the White House" (note the implication of ownership, rather than stewardship, of the office) rather than to simply get their candidates elected. It's a wonder they haven't gotten (more) violent yet...
