LORDS A LEAPIN':

Lords fuel climate change row with blow to Kyoto (GERRI PEEV, 7/06/05, The Scotsman)

THE Kyoto Protocol has been rubbished by a heavyweight committee of peers, on the day that Tony Blair opens the G8 summit with a focus on global warming.

A cross-party House of Lords report today finds that the Kyoto targets will make "little difference" to the pace of global warming and has called for Gordon Brown, the Chancellor, to calculate how much it is costing Britain.

The report will deal a damaging blow both to Mr Blair's attempt to present a "consensus" behind global warming, and demands that the United States agrees to Kyoto in a G8 declaration tomorrow.

And to think, W didn't get them a gift....

Tony Blair deserves a lot of respect for sticking with the US on Iraq. But on domestic policies and other issues he is firmly in the lefty camp. The Tories in Britain have failed to capitalize on this which doesn't bode well for the future of Britain.

I don't get it. Blair deserves respect for sticking with us in Iraq? Why is that? It's in his own self interest. Blair realizes that terrorism is a threat to his country the same way as Bush does.

Terrorism, not global warming and African aid, is what they should be talking about. The Islamic takeover of Europe and the law of sharia that euroweenies are allowing to supercede their own laws should be at the top of the agenda in Scotland.

If the G-8 were united in opposition to terrorism, we would be waving bye-bye to them right now.

It's just not seen as a threat here, unfortunately.

Interestingly, this is one of the few articles on this subject which mentions the fact that the US Senate rejected this treaty back in 1998 (vote 95-0). If I recall correctly, Bill Clinton was President at that time.

Yes, but no one takes a Democratic senate seriously.

It was Republican in '98 or the vote never would have come to the floor.
