1010 WINS EXCLUSIVE: JERRY ORBACH DEAD AT 69 (1010WINS, 12/29/04)

1010 WINS has learned that "Law and Order" star Jerry Orbach has died of prostate cancer at the age of 69. His manager, Robert Malcolm confirmed Orbach's death this morning.

He was so perfect, so un-pretty. TV despises actors who look like the rest of us, preferring wooden prop-people who bring nothing but high cheekbones to their roles. Orbach was replaced by some glitzy retread actor with not one tenth of the stage presence of "Lennie." The new guy makes the show unwatchable.

I'll have to pull out my CD of the stage version of "42nd Street" with Orbach in the Julian Marsh role (nobody ever disdainfully said the word "Allentown" like he did to kick off the "Lullaby of Broadway" number).

Hiring him was the best move L&O ever made (hiring every assistant DA after Richard Brooks the worst).
