ALL-AMERICAN
Sex Industry Funded Campaign Against New Stadium (Mark Segraves, WTOP Radio, 12/17/04)
The sex industry funded part of a campaign that opposes the construction of a new baseball stadium on the Anacostia waterfront. . . .Baseball, politics and sex -- an All-American trifecta. Posted by David Cohen at December 18, 2004 12:01 PMAnd, WTOP Radio has learned up to 20 percent of the $50,000 came from Robert Siegel, . . . a major landowner on the South Capitol stadium site, an area that Siegel calls "D.C.'s unofficial Red Light district."
He owns 11 properties, several of which house gay nightclubs. He also owns a gay porn shop and adult theaters.
The sex shops were forced out of their former main habitat in D.C., north of the Federal Triangle and National Gallery, so that Abe Polin could build -- with his own money -- the MCI Center, so I'm sure poor ol' Mr. Siegel just didn't want to get uprooted again for another sports franchise. The difference was this time, he could actually claim to be on the side of the taxpayers, thanks to the District's stadium funding scheme.

Posted by: MarkD at December 18, 2004 2:41 PMHow good can baseball be for the sex business when stars like Rafael Palmeiro admit to using Viagra?
