Patrick L. Meehan, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and Lynne Abraham, Philadelphia District Attorney, today announced the filing of an indictment charging Nefertiti Randall, Brandon James, Quiana James, LaMech James, Crystal Gilliard and Shanta Henderson, all of Philadelphia, with Conspiracy, in violation of 18 U.S.C. ¤371, Bank Fraud, in violation of 18 U.S.C. ¤1344 and Aiding and Abetting, in violation of 18 U.S.C. ¤2 (United States Attorney's Office, Eastern District Pennsylvania, April 19, 2002)"This case alerts the public that identity theft is an insidious, nationwide problem that has the potential of affecting millions of Americans," said Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham. "All Americans must monitor their personal information to guard against the potential of being ripped off. Everyone must be vigilant every day."If convicted of the offenses, the defendants face the following maximum penalties, in addition to 5 years supervised release and forfeiture of all assets.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service. Prosecution has been assigned to Special Assistant United States Attorney Mary-Ellen Walter and Assistant
United States Attorney Amy Kurland.
