Group: INS Destroyed Elian Document (Adrian Sainz, April 10, 2002, Associated Press)
The head of the Immigration and Naturalization Service ordered the destruction of an e-mail that could have bolstered the request for asylum filed for Elian Gonzalez during the Cuban boy's stay in Miami, a watchdog group said Wednesday.

The Brothers make no bones about being xenophobic jingoes. So there have been relatively few moments when we were ashamed of our country--the fall of Saigon in 1975, the Tienanmen massacre, the visits of Gerry Adams and Yasar Arafat to the White House, President Bush's recent signing of Campaign Finance Reform, and maybe a couple others. But no moment has ever caused us greater shame than when Bill Clinton shipped Elian Gonzalez back to Cuba. If the administration really did conceal evidence, such as that Elian's father repeatedly asked to be allowed to defect to the United States himself, people should go to prison for it.
