Carter says Hamas will accept Abbas-brokered deal (Reuters, The Associated Press, April 21, 2008)

Former President Jimmy Carter of the United States said on Monday that Hamas leaders had told him they would accept a peace agreement negotiated by their rival, Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, if Palestinians approved the deal in a vote.

"They said they would accept a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders if approved by Palestinians," even though "Hamas might disagree with some terms of the agreement," Carter said in a speech, after talks in Syria and Egypt with Hamas leaders.

Hamas has already disowned him, saying that they won't be bound by a vote.

Ibid is correct: Hamas has stated they will not accept a referendum. I suppose Jimmy will blame Bush and the Jews.

Still, we have to give Hamas credit. They disowned Carter 3 years, 364 days and 23 hours faster than we did.

There's a part of me that was hoping they'd take him hostage, so we could refuse to pay the ransom or try rescuing him. Does that make me a bad person?

MM: Um, yeah, a little. Being a hostage of the Palestinians should be something you "wouldn't wish on your worst enemy," not "would."

Also, one of the reasons for the 1967 war was the 1967 border, which allowed Syria to shell Israel from the Golan Heights. All these guys want is some extra territory from which they can mount attacks on the rest of Israel, until they get that territory as well. I'm not seeing this so-called peace, just war-forever-and-ever by other means.
