Beijing Games Compared to 'Hitler's Olympics': Jewish Leaders Call for Boycott, Citing China's Record on Rights, Hamas 'Friendship' (Eric Gorski, April 30, 2008, ABC News)

A wide-ranging group of U.S. Jewish leaders plans to release a statement Wednesday urging Jews worldwide to boycott the Summer Olympics in Beijing, citing China's troubling record on human rights and Tibet.

The statement also notes China's close relationships with Iran, Syria and the militant group Hamas.

So far, 175 rabbis, seminary officials and other prominent Jews have signed the declaration, which comes shortly before Holocaust Remembrance Day on Friday, organizers said.

...W should take up the cudgel on behalf of the boycott.

W should do no such thing. All reflexive BDS carriers would pile on him and excuse the Chinese. They have been doing that for the last eight years. They even supported terrorists against him. W should not respond, should not go to the opening ceremony. In other words, W should just ignore the damn game.

You can't diss your biggest lender. The Bible has much commentary on the relationship between lender and borrower, with the borrower usually described as a "slave." GWB is behaving appropriately for his station.

China owns about 5% of total US debt. The American government's biggest lenders are government programs like Social Security, American citizens and American companies.

Yeah, I'm not sure how us having all their money and them having some of our paper means that they own us.

Which Biblical verse is it that says, "If you owe the bank $1000, it owns you. If you owe it $10 billion, you own the bank."

We did nothing but dis the Japanese when they "owned us" in the 80s.

I don't recall dissing the Japanese in the 80's. Actually, we had them on a silly pedestal and a superior people.

Absent financial concerns, there is no excuse for GW's amoral take on the Olympics. There's no excuse for moral fatigue. There's no excuse, no explaining-away, he's rolling over for the Chicoms.

Easy to forget Reagan's quotas and hysteria like "Rising Sun"

He's rolling over for American consumers and business, but it is immoral.
