Poll: Young Americans revere monogamy (UPI, March 30, 2008)

"We were completely surprised. There has been a faulty portrayal of millennials by the media -- television, films, news, blogs, everything. These people are not the self-entitled, coddled slackers they're made out to be. Misnomers and myths about them are all over the place," said Ann Mack, who directed the survey and is the official "director of trend-spotting" at J. Walter Thompson, the nation's largest advertising agency.

In addition to indicating 94 percent of millennials respect monogamy and parenthood and 84 percent revere marriage, the survey found 88 percent said they respect the U.S. Constitution, 84 percent respect the military and more than three-quarters believe in the "American dream."

You mean they aren't like the people who are in the media?

Whoda thunk that?

Gee, is that why anti-American movies and TV shows tank? You think producers will get a clue?

If I can humbly be allowed to offer a comment on behalf of my generation, I'd suggest that lots of us are sick of the cynicism we've been drenched with all our lives and have been expected to exhibit in return.

One other thing: Many of us were in high school or college when 9/11 hit. We haven't forgotten.

Matt: (and everybody) What changes everything is the absence of a military draft. Cowardice is no longer the handmaiden to treason and all is made new.

That's the way it was back in the days of shame, when the worst generation said, "Hell, no; I won't go!" Not only did they dodge the draft, leaving their more honest neighbors to be sent in their places, but they consciously and expresslely embraced evil--Communism, drugs, perversion--to rationalize their perfidy.

The sky is a different color now. Mlitary technology makes mass armies obsolete and the lessons of Vietnam itself restrain us from the insanity of attempting the savage wars of peace with draftees.

The left wing itself is still permeated with oedipal perversion and narcissistic solipsim, and is still led by old-time poltroon traitors who continue to rationalize their shame with pretended pacifism. Nevertheless we are here at the turning of the tide.

Matt, I fully expect you to be part of the leadership of your generation.
