Bush pushing through U.N. ambassador today (Associated Press, 8/01/05)

[P]resident Bush will circumvent the Senate on Monday and install embattled nominee John Bolton to be ambassador to the United Nations, two senior administration officials said.

Bush has the power to fill vacancies without Senate approval while Congress is in recess. Under the Constitution, a recess appointment during the lawmakers' August break would last until the next session of Congress, which begins in January 2007.

That the Admninistration sees no downside whatsoever to this appointment is demonstrated by the President announcing it personally on a Monday morning.

Done... and done!

Jerk on Fox News opined Bush was a little "pugnacious."

Oh, how I love this guy.

Except that Brit Hume's show is the finest news program on TV, bar none.

No one is interested in the Honeymoon cruise from hell?

More intriguing than the round the clock coverage of Michael Jackson, Natalie Holloway and Scott Peterson.

Think it has legs.

If anything, the vast majority of Americans have a lower opinion of the UN than that held even at Fox News.

A hint. When SNL, which is the Budweiser of humor, can consistently rip the UN for theivery, egomania and arrogance, the UN has real problems with American audiences.

when is the last time you ever learned anything you didn't already know, or heard something interesting, on Britt's show ? he is great personally, but just what do mara liasson or juan williams have to contribute ? let's accept as a given that it is a fine show, that leaves an awful lot of air time to fill.

"President Bush will circumvent the Senate on Monday"

WRONG!!! The President circumvented the Dem. minority who did not allow an up or down vote on the nominee. But what can you you expect from the AP?

Bush even wore a gold tie - must have been a very special announcement.

Circumventing the Senate! Now, if only they could treat Harry Reid the way Michael Corleone did......hey, wait a minute!
