WASN'T EMERSON THE BOOZER?:

How to campaign on a faraway planet (DAVE BARRY, Jan. 27, 2004, The Miami Herald)

[V]oters were hard to find on Sunday when Sen. Joe ''Joe'' Lieberman, accompanied by the media, went campaigning door to door with his wife, Hadassah. Lieberman is trailing in the polls, but surging, at least according to his campaign headquarters, which sent out a press release that begins, quote: ``The energy on the ground in New Hampshire is incredible.''

With all due respect, somebody at Lieberman headquarters is smoking crack. There is no energy on the ground in New Hampshire. New Hampshire is currently the same temperature as Pluto.

Nevertheless, Lieberman was upbeat as he prepared to canvass a residential neighborhood.

"We're feeling . . . JOE-mentum!'' he said. Really.

Apparently, that Joementum is the same affliction Joe Namath has.

Lieberman's claim of a third-place tie last night when he clearly finished in fifth place was just bizarre. The guy needs to fold up shop.

Should never have opened up in the first place.

If I was McAuliffe I'd keep Lieberman afloat for another month just to have a voice of unashamed patriotism emanating from the party.

Unnecessary.

Kerry, et al., will soon start campaigning as the true American patriots, the purveyors of real American values, the genuine keepers of the flame.

Perverted, and betrayed, by that man in the White House and his band of shady confederates.

For Lieberman it is good news/badnews

Good news is that he finished second.

Bad news everyone else tied for first.

For someone who doesn't like football, that is a clever title.

But Boozer scored more touchdowns when the game was on the line than Lieberman ever did.
