THE WHITEST MAN IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
Landslide Kerry The mystifying appeal of the Massachusetts senator. (Chris Suellentrop, Slate, 1/26/04)
At a firehouse in Hampton yesterday, a man told Kerry that he thinks it's unfair that people say a New Englander can't connect with people from varying backgrounds. And to prove that you can do it, he says, explain the importance of the icon on my hat. Kerry is mystified. "The Latin? The Ten?" he asks. Malcolm X, the man explains. It would be nice to be hipper than the President again. Posted by David Cohen at January 26, 2004 8:54 PM

If the cap just had a big "X" on it, I'd have said it was a piece of Apple OS X swag....

(and, of course, as with Lord knows how many other utterances over the years, just imagine the press reaction if this had spilled forth from the mouth of a Republican).

Of course, many candidates would have said "The X-Files?"
Although considering the number of the Democrats who want to party with Spike Lee, Kerry should have known this one.
