WE ALL WANT SOMEONE TO BURN:

NPR Reporter Says Christians Should 'Burn': Hateful voice mail message to conservative group leads to resignation. (Terry Phillips, 12/03/04, Citizen Link)

A National Public Radio (NPR) reporter has resigned after a hateful voice mail message she left for a conservative group was made public.

Rachel Buchman worked for WHYY in Philadelphia, an NPR affiliate, when she called the offices of the Web site laptoplobbyist.com to express her outrage over an e-mail the group sent to her opposing special rights for homosexuals.

"You're evil, horrible people. You're awful people," she said, identifying herself only as "Rachel." "You represent horrible ideas. God hates you and He wants to kill your children. You should all burn."

The question isn't whether but whom.

Ms. Buchman also strings for CBS but you didn't have to be a psychic to guess that connection might turn up.

No. She's got it backwards. You burn witches and heretics. It's lions for Christians.

Hmm...honors in anthropology from Columbia.

Yet another case of an avowed secularist having no problem believing in hell, as long as only people who disagree with her wind up there.

Maybe she's a follower of Sartre, and hell, for her, is other people.

Just listened to the .mp3 of the call. What's spooky is that she doesn't sound anywhere close to as agitated as you'd expect from the transcript. She says "God hates you and He wants to kill your children. You should all burn." in roughly the same tone of voice as a Stepford Wife discussing a cookie recipe.

In other words, that is one cree-pee chick.

Anthropology, another major where graduating requires little more than collecting boxtops.

In my faith we have rules, the 613 laws outlined in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. The standard way of looking at them is as a ladder, whether you are moving up is more important than where you are at a given time, thus someone like myself who doesn't keep kosher but davens every day isn't irredeemible. One of the rules is that you may not engage in homosexual sex, that doesn't mean that I am supposed to stone homosexuals but if I am somehow expected to approve of it, they have a long wait.

If you are an atheist what is Hell, exactly? A Mormon Tabernacle Choir concert? An OBerammergau Passion Play? Being locked in a room with Jimmy Swaggart for all eternity?

"Being locked in a room with Jimmy Swaggart for all eternity?"

Actually I think conservative Christians, might think that was h*ll also.

He also plays a mean boogie woogie piano, like his cousin Jerry Lee Lewis.

I hired one of Swaggert's devout followers to build a factory for me. This guy traveled 300 miles to attend Swaggert's church once a month.

I was quite pleased with myself, every morning he started his crew working after prayer and when I came to him to ask questions at the work site he was always upbeat, happy, and enthusiastic. Praise the Lord this, Praise the Lord that.

Cheated me and caused me considerable expense to repair his work. Failed to pay some sub-contractors. Looked every where for him and never did find him. When I asked people, where he went they all chuckled and shook their head.

I'm one of those evangelicals.

Don't forget the other cousin, Mickey Gilley.

OJ's right the boy can preach. For my money, though, the best pulpit pounder going is T.D. Jakes.
