NUTTY BUDDY:
Mr. Schwarzenegger (Molly Ivins, August 26, 2003, AlterNet)
One problem I have with Arnold Schwarzenegger is that he looks like a condom stuffed with walnuts. I realize that is superficial, shallow and unbecoming to a semi-serious-minded liberal like myself, but there it is. The other is that he doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to public policy.
Even by the low standards of Ms Ivins this is a pretty appalling column as she opens with this paragraph and then does not mention a single policy disagreement she has with Mr. Schwarzenegger. The whole point seems to be the comparison to the juglans dildo, which, having not used one ourselves, we'll take her word on the appearance of. Posted by Orrin Judd at September 11, 2003 07:53 PM
One would really think that the creature identified as Molly Ivins would avoid writing about the appearance of others. I mean, she's just making it too easy.
Posted by: kevin whited at September 11, 2003 09:15 PMMolly was the go-to gal for media elites prior to the 2000 election on George W. Bush, and her mendacity and contempt for his intellegence is the basis for all the "Bush is an idiot" stuff that's spewn today, which IMHO helped GWB in the long-run, because all these people still can't believe they can be beaten in an election ou outsmarted politically by such a person.
She has far less clout when it comes to defining California politics, so this comes off as just a Dowdian petualnt rant, built up in no small part by her anger over recent Republican successes that she indirectly played a major role in creating in the first place, because Molly still hasn't gotten over the 1994 election that tossed her buddy Ann Richards out of office.
What's interesting is that Ms Richards did get past it and in 2000 tried warning Democrats not to underestimate Bush.
Posted by: oj at September 11, 2003 11:56 PMWhat is a "juglans"?
Posted by: Robert Schwartz at September 12, 2003 01:46 AMRobert - How do you spell Google?
"This is a form of the noble Black Walnut with
large, deeply incised pinnate leaves."
Robert - Juglans is the genus name for walnuts, including the black walnut, and the late, lamented butternut.
